UPS, Louisville’s largest employer, began a dramatic $1 billion expansion in 2006 to increase sorting capacity by approximately 60% to 487,000 packages per hour. Demand for additional hub capacity has been driven by strong growth in international and domestic express business. Marine Electric was awarded the electrical contract by Hunt Construction Group for the UPS Worldport Expansion. The project is now complete.
Don Clark, project manager, gave the following review: Our crew installed approximately 40 feeders for motor control panels, conveyor panels, lighting, fire alarms, power additions, modifications and upgrades required for the expansion.
The Information Technology installation had Marine Electric’s installers responsible for the layout
and design of the system, plus making changes to attain a 20 year warranty. The IT system
included installing 1500 data and phone lines, data jack locations, panels, conveyors, office data outlets and various terminals.
Similar work for the Fiber Optic Backbone IT system in Wing E will soon be completed.
Marine Electric is still working with the UPS Worldport Expansion engineering team to make the Worldport facility operational in September 2009.
“Our everyday maintenance operations will continue. We look forward to serving UPS; striving for perfection and quality installations in the future,” says Clark.
