A ranch of 600 acres is calling Roger Flener to be a full time beef cattle rancher with his wife, Phyllis, and their family of 4 daughters and 6 grand children, in Rosine, Kentucky.

Roger became an apprentice in 1969 and was assigned to Marine Electric.  He was a bit hesitant to work on boats, but soon found the company did a great variety of work.

Louis Mueller was his first journeyman and his mentor. He worked under Mr. Thirwell, Sam Storm, and then Charlie Wirth, who was a project manager when Roger started.

Roger talks of unique challenges that make him proud, like UPS, Stauffer and Dow Corning, where he has worked on site since 1989.  He has many fond memories to take with him.

“Marine is an excellent company! They are customer oriented and care about their employees. People call on us because we get the job done on time and in budget.”  Flener adds, “It’s pretty inspirational to see 150 men go in on a Saturday with bucket trucks, generator, and cranes and walk away with the site totally ready for the customer on Monday. WE GET IT DONE!”

“Phyllis wanted me to retire 2 years ago and work with the family. We all share the work, the fun and the profits. We are a blessed family!”

Roger says “I hate to retire…. but I’m going to!”
