The University of Louisville’s CT/HSC BioMed Research Building 3, Phase 111, at 505 South Hancock Street, is one of Marine Electric’s largest projects – Ever! This $120 million project is six stories plus a basement and penthouse. The building includes a laboratory, research support and 287,000 square feet of office space.

Marine Electric was awarded the electrical contract in February, 2007; the completion is anticipated spring 2009.  This multi-year job has been a great experience and opportunity. Some of these extensive projects included:

  • The building’s security system had to be interlinked with the campus-wide security system, including installation on all doors affected, frames and hardware, plus complete testing after installation.
  • 2,000+ communication data outlets (approximately 35 miles of cable) were linked with more than 3000’ of cable that tied into the campus network.
  • We installed 3500 various types of light fixtures, including dimmers, low voltage and photo controls.
  • Bill Meuer and Kevin Wells, project foremen, spent many many hours laying out the entire building’s conduit system to meticulously be installed and mapped with HVAC ductwork, plumbing pipe, sprinkler piping and all applicable ceiling types, insulation and determining their construction schedule.

Michael Jury, senior project manager stated “This incredible project included changes, coordination of subcontractors and following a schedule. My goals were to keep a stable crew and flow of materials at all times. It was rewarding to give the University of Louisville a first class installation.”

Marine was pleased to have worked with Messer Construction, the general construction manager, electrical engineers, Staggs & Fisher, and architects, Arrasmith, Judd, Rapp and Chovan. Jury adds, “this was a very professional team; a real pleasure to work with.”
