From the President-
When I began searching for the right words to build strength and momentum behind a statement regarding our safety program at Marine Electric Company I looked at many options from policies of great leaders. Ultimately, I chose to borrow much of my declaration from an honorable leader who has tremendous experience with work place safety, General James T. Conway, U.S. Marine Corps. It is with inspiration from his safety policy statement that I have written our directive for a safe working environment.
Preservation is a vital element of maintaining our forces here at Marine Electric Company. Our readiness and cohesion are affected when Marine employees are injured due to mishaps on and off the job. Although we as a group are working to improve Marine Electric Safety, we can and must do better.
Safety is the responsibility of every Marine Employee. All of us must mitigate risks and hazards to maintain individual health and well-being.
Safety is also a leadership responsibility. From the President on down we must provide the institutional foundation for safety - reinforcing individual and group safety measures. Remember the military slogan, “Marines take care of their own,” we must expand upon this to include working safely with all construction trades on a project as “our own.”
Foreman and Project Managers positively influence safe behavior on the job by setting the example, training and education enforcement, and accountability.
Safety Programs will never replace leadership. Leadership is the key to preventing accidental deaths and injuries that directly affect the lives of our electricians, other trades we work along side and the capabilities of our Customers and the Company. Together we must set the foundation of safe practices to preserve the health of our electricians and the integrity of our customer’s facilities where we work.
